Die mehrjährige krautige Pflanze erreicht Wuchshöhen zwischen 20 und 60 Zentimetern und hat einen locker verzweigten, mehrblütigen Stängel. Die nickenden Blüten haben etwa gleichlange Blütenhüllblätter, außen rötliche (purpur-braune) Kelchblätter und innen gelbe Kronblätter, die am Rand rötlich werden. Es gibt einen braunroten Außenkelch. Geum rivale, the water avens, is a flowering plant of the family Rosaceae. It is native to much of Europe, with the exception of Mediterranean areas, as well as some parts of Central Asia and North America. It grows in bogs and damp meadows, and produces nodding red flowers from May to September.
