Die bis zu 2 m hoch wachsende, Milchsaft führende Pflanze, kommt in gemäßigten Zonen praktisch weltweit vor und findet sich bevorzugt an Wegrändern. Die zahlreichen Blüten sind meist hellblau, selten weiß oder rosarot. Die Wurzel der Kaffezichorie kann bis zu 500 g schwer werden und wurde geröstet als Kaffeeersatz verwendet. In der Bachblüten Therapie wird Chicory verordnet bei Überfürsorglichkeit, Beleidigtsein, Egoismus, Eifersucht, Gefühlstyrannei, Selbstmitleid und Überanhänglichkeit.
