Es sind kletternde bis kriechende, saftige, ein- bis mehrjährige krautige Pflanzen. Die Stängel sind niederliegend oder kletternd. Die Kapuzinerkresse ist eine sehr dankbare Sommerpflanze, denn sie blüht von Juni bis Oktober reichlich.
Obendrein ist die Kapuzinerkresse so schattenverträglich, dass sie auch dunkle Stellen unter Bäumen oder andere Schattenplätze mit Grün und kräftigen Farben erfüllen.
Man kann sowohl die runden Blätter als auch die Blüten essen und mit dem leicht scharfen Geschmack seine Speisen würzen. Das ist nicht nur lecker, sondern auch sehr gesund.

All parts of the plant are edible. The flower has most often been consumed, making for an especially ornamental salad ingredient; it has a slightly peppery taste reminiscent of watercress, and is also used in stir fry.
